Gymir is a Folk / Viking influenced metal band hailing from the southern shores of Dorset in England. The band has a long complicated history behind it although its only been around for just over a year. Gymir started off life under a different name 'Shallow Intentions' almost 9 years ago now by founding member Ian Pauffley.
Originally they only played metal covers from the likes of Children of Bodom, Metallica, Pantera and Lamb of God until they found their feet and wrote their first original track 'Battle Scarred'. Their aim was to be a neo-classical crossbreed of all the bands they covered previously, but alas.. things didn't work out quite like this.
Their natural style as a band came out as Viking inspired Folk Metal, so rather than fight it and force themselves into the genre they originally planned, they went with it and never looked back. Through the years they played countless shows up and down the country playing everywhere and anywhere they could to get themselves recognised, although the average age of the band was 18, they gained quite a following considering they hadn't released any albums, even getting offers from labels after only being a band less than a year.
Unfortunately, like all good things.. this all came to an abrupt end when members left due to work commitments, Uni or the lack of funds to support the band on the road. Many new members came and went but nothing seemed to stick, up until 2 years ago when the band had found itself a strong resilient and driven couple of members. It was at this time they collectively decided to up their game and re-invent the band which is what we now know as Gymir. The name change represented the band growing up and taking it all that little bit more seriously to show they mean business.
Following the name change came their new 2 track single release, 'The Return of the Raven' recorded and produced by Jeff Rose 'ex Skindred and Dub War member' at Junkyard Studios in Wales. Straight away the band had grabbed the attention of promoters and avid Folk Metal fans around the world quickly establishing themselves as a new up and coming Folk Metal band to keep an eye on.
The band are now currently in the process of writing their very much anticipated new album which they plan on bringing out during the summer of 2015. Although they are also planning or releasing 1 track off of the album before this as a free download as a thank you to all their fans and for being patient whilst we work on the album.
