Jamaica - Orisha Shakpana - Broken Messiah - The Gathering

Orisha Shakpana was formed on February 14th 2006, on my veranda in Portmore, Jamaica. After breaking up a former band called Dark Cirkus, I, Lord Ifrit, went on to form something that was more extreme than what I did. Dark Cirkus was a Death/Grind band in the vein of Repulsion. More on that on a Dark Cirkus facebook page. The 1st recorded song for Orisha.. was "Throne of Death" which was supposed to be a Dark Cirkus song, but I made it sound more Black metal. The last D.C. demo was called "Satanic Powers", then as Orisha, I went on to do Sarcofago,Venom, Bathory and Hellhammer covers. At that time I was thinking of names to call my new Black Metal side project. Names like, "Ak-47 Wetdream", Cokehed Ras'(ras' a patois abbreviation for "rasta", duh! lol and "Orisha Shango" came to mind)

I heard about the Orisha from books I'd read at the Kingston & St. Andrew Parish Library back in Jamaica(despite Jamaican culture being mostly Akan, this was due to the popularity of Yoruba spirituality or Ifa) . Around this time I was really enamoured with Norse mythology( lol because of bands like Satyricon, Darkthrone and Bathory) and saw a great similarity with Orisha and Odinism. In Orisha, Olokun would be Odin and Enki(from Sumerian mythology), Eshu is exactly like Loki and Thor,Shango. Marvel comics, I later found out, made comics about the Orisha. So I pretty much used Bathory's idea, to give homage(which he, Quorthon, himself will admit that he wasn't the 1st one, Manowar, and a lot more :D).

Upon recording the 1st album(more like demo album), I was visited by a demon, or something that was in a silhouette, calling himself "Amon", he's not the chief Egyptian god of creation, but this thing did tell me that he did in fact gave me knowledge. He gave me the architecture of Hell, and told me the height and weight of all demons. THEY ARE ALL UNIFORM!! Upon receiving this, I immediately started writing lyrics, which in the song "Christian Slut" I was told to write a verse that he'll recite, so I did. Christian Slut(or Descerator of Holy Effigies) as a sequel that appeared on the EP "Caribbean Metal Storm", called "Chosen Antichrist Prophetess" which also has a sequel that appeared on the album afterwards, called "Priestess Patricia" which is the 6th track on the album "Spectral Duppymaan Black Metal".

Years later, I am now more in touch with my Niger-Congo roots. Also, I am planning to unite the Caribbean in Heavy metal music, because we of the Caribbean are the smallest Heavy metal fan base on the planet.
